The Adult Education Outreach Assistant helps create a safe space for students learning English through educational support and resource connection. The assistant helps create a warm and welcoming environment for students and their families on Su Casa’s campus and at various events, supporting connection and programmatic growth. The goal of this position is to help both increase the number of students in the program and deepen the personalized care we aim to provide each student.
The assistant works under the direction of the Adult Education Program Manager to run the ESL program and to coordinate outreach and resource events for clients. This part-time position requires a welcoming, outgoing personality for recruiting students and engaging via phone and face-to-face, as well as an organized, self-directed mind, willing and able to work on the computer and online. The assistant reports to the Adult Education Program Manager.
Schedule
-16-20 hours weekly– attendance at both AM and PM classes is required for the position.
-Tuesday and Thursday AM class schedule: 8:30am – 11:00am (5 hours weekly)
-Tuesday and Thursday class PM schedule: 6:00pm – 8:30pm (5 hours weekly)
-6-10 additional hours in student support, clerical work, and/or outreach coordination.
-Recruiting events generally occur on weekends or during the evenings
-Additional Su Casa Family events as outlined in the staff calendar
El Asistente de Alcance y Educación de Adultos ayuda a crear un espacio seguro para los estudiantes que aprenden inglés a través de apoyo educativo y conexión con recursos. El asistente ayuda a crear un ambiente cálido y acogedor para los estudiantes y sus familias en el campus de Su Casa y en diversos eventos, apoyando la conexión y el crecimiento del programa. El objetivo de este puesto es ayudar tanto a aumentar el número de estudiantes en el programa como a profundizar la atención personalizada que buscamos brindar a cada estudiante.
El asistente trabaja bajo la dirección del Gerente del Programa de Educación de Adultos para ejecutar el programa de ESL y coordinar eventos de alcance y recursos para los clientes. Este puesto de medio tiempo requiere una personalidad acogedora y extrovertida para reclutar estudiantes e interactuar por teléfono y en persona, así como una mente organizada y autodirigida, dispuesta y capaz de trabajar en la computadora y en línea. El asistente reporta a la Gerente del Programa de Educación de Adultos.
Responsibilities
- Help prospective students complete the enrollment process.
- Send informational texts and respond to student messages.
- Collect payment from students.
- Greet students as they enter/exit classes.
- Prepare classrooms, coffee for breaks, and clean up classrooms at the end of the day
- Prepare flyers and/or post flyers in the building for events
- Help with student satisfaction surveys.
- Maintain contact with volunteers via email and/or text
- Check volunteer supplies and replenish as needed.
- Help with volunteer satisfaction surveys
- Assist with childcare needs.
- At the end of the program, assist with cleaning classrooms and preparing the building for the next group.
- Coordinate our yearly resource events by scheduling appointments, connecting with interpreters and partners, and maintaining data.
- Visit local businesses, churches, and immigrant-centered events to recruit new students
- Maintain communication with students and their families to encourage student retention.
- Table at events geared towards Latino immigrant families or towards volunteers.
- Work alongside the program manager to discover new recruiting and retention options.
- Maintain a posture of listening to students to understand their needs and how best to serve them.
- Demonstrate punctuality and a hard work ethic.
- Report any concerns or problems to your supervisor and/or the Director of Operations.
- Maintain accurate records of all student information (attendance, etc).
- Communicate clearly and in a timely manner with your supervisor.
- Approach all participants respectfully and in a way that exhibits God’s grace.
- Maintain a professional work environment.
- Engage in a professional manner at all times
- Attend Su Casa Family Ministries events, as outlined in the staff calendar.
- Support the mission and values of Su Casa, including the Statement of Faith.
- Show flexibility and a team spirit when asked to assist in other duties outside of the normal job description.
Experience Requirements
- Experience working with the Latino immigrant community in Memphis preferred
- Experience in cross-cultural, nonprofit, or ministry settings preferred
- Experience in canvassing, recruiting or tabling at events, or community outreach preferred
