Designs meaningful lessons that engage students with a wide variety of needs. Conducts functional vision assessments, shares the results with caregiver, school and medical team. Instructs student based on results from functional vision assessment and uses experiences in the classroom to inform Individualized Education Plan. Provides thoughtful feedback and administers academic assessments to support student progress. Prepares course outlines and objectives that meet curriculum and state requirements, ensuring a well-rounded learning experience. Incorporates audiovisual aids and technology to make lessons more engaging and accessible. Regularly evaluates and tracks student progress, offering constructive feedback to guide improvement. Works closely with students, caregivers, teachers and counselors to address academic and behavioral concerns, ensuring a supportive and collaborative learning environment. Actively participates in staff meetings, workshops, and professional learning to stay at the forefront of education.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate day-to-day operations of educational programming.
  • Prepare learning objectives, pacing guides or consultation according to national, state, local or professional standards.
  • Deliver educational or consultative programming in formal or informal learning environments using developmentally appropriate teaching methods.
  • Adapt lesson plans, supports/plan of care or activities to meet the individual needs, acuity and/or interests of participants.
  • Assess student learning and/or functioning using validated tools and measures.
  • Facilitate interactive, engaging learning experiences and/or school support.
  • Manage classroom or program logistics, such as scheduling and materials preparation.
  • Collect, organize, and report program data to program leadership.
  • Provide input on program improvement based on observations and participant feedback.
  • Communicate with program participants, students, community schools and/or caregivers regarding program logistics.
  • Participate in staff and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to improve practice.
  • Represent St. Jude in meetings with external partners (e.g., schools, professional organizations, school board meetings).
  • Build relationships with educators, schools, or community partners to promote programs, student success and achieve the goals of the department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Experience Requirements

  • 1+ year of instructional experience in either a school setting or a patient-focused acute or critical care setting required.
  • Fluency in additional language strongly preferred.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Education or other relevant field.
  • Additional training in Special Education is preferred.
  • Additional training in specialized area (e.g., Special Education, STEM) as required by the program preferred.
  • Fluency in additional languages strongly encouraged.
  • Proven performance in earlier role.
  • Valid Teaching License within the United States. Must transfer license to the state of Tennessee within 12 months of employment.
  • Elementary Education K-5 or Special Education endorsements preferred. (Sped Comp K-12, Sped Hear PreK-12, and Sped Vision PreK-12).
  • Specialization of TVI (Teacher of Visually Impaired) teaching license highly preferred.
