Technical Specialist- Water Pollution- Performs technical work in chemical, biological, bacteriological, or engineering aspects of scientific and technical activities in the water pollution field.
Responsibilities
- Develops and coordinates the activities of the personnel performing investigations or field work of wells.
- Provides Water Quality lectures and presentations and attend meetings or seminars.
- Enforces local, state, and federal wellhead and groundwater protection regulations.
- Ensures compliance with the Shelby County Well Construction Code and issues written notices of violation.
- Investigates construction and maintenance code violations and enforces actions taken by the Water Quality Branch.
- Develops computerized database files on activities, survey results, inspections and data generated by well surveys.
- Conducts water well inspections and issues permit for quasi-public water wells.
- Evaluates septic tank applications and performs site inspections for the proper installation of a sewage disposal system.
Experience Requirements
- Two (2) years of technical experience as an environmental monitor, environmental sampler, or environmentalist
- Experience in chemical, biological or engineering aspects of scientific and/or technical activities preferred.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in environmental health, chemistry, physics, biology, microbiology, or a closely related field;
- Or An equivalent combination of related education and/or experience.
