What Is a Red Card?
The Red Card is a bilingual “Know Your Rights” resource created by the Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC). It empowers individuals—especially those who may be undocumented or navigating complex immigration systems to:
- Assert their constitutional rights during encounters with immigration officers or law enforcement.
- Avoid self-incrimination by clearly stating their right to remain silent and to speak with an attorney.
- Keep families together by being prepared and informed in case of emergency or detainment.
Compact and wallet-sized, the Red Card is printed in both English and Spanish and can be handed to an officer if needed. It includes legally sound language that communicates your rights respectfully and clearly—without confrontation.
Red Cards are available completely free of charge at Latino Memphis, 6041 Mt. Moriah Ext. Walk-ins are welcome during normal business hours. You can also call ahead to request a batch for your family, church, or community group.
