2 Latino Memphis in the community.

Latino Memphis was formed in 1995 as a linkage of the Community Forum. In 1999 after almost 5 years with MIFA serving as its fiscal agent, Latino Memphis became an independent 501-(c)-3.

Over that time, Latino Memphis has successfully advocated for systemic change in a wide variety of areas, ranging from the Department of Human Services (DHS) and health access at the MED to leading the campaign to reform the driver's license laws in Tennessee.

Latino Memphis's work in many of those areas continues today with partnerships providing the DHS with an outstation in the Latino Memphis community center (El Centro) and the implementation of Hablamos Juntos at the MED. Latino Memphis also has played an integral part in supporting the DREAM Act.

Outside of its advocacy work, Latino Memphis is working to develop new leaders in its youth development program, Abriendo Puertas, as well as continuing to serve as a hub for information and resources for the Latino community and other organizations looking to reach out into the community. This initiative takes place in El Centro, the Latino Memphis community center, which also hosts the DHS.
